On Sunday, 1 March, the training programme “EQuIP – Enhancing the Quality of Industrial Policies” was opened in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Royal University for Women which is hosting the event.

The programme was inaugurated by HE Mr. Zayed Al Zayani, Minister of Industry & Commerce of the Kingdom of Bahrain, HE Mrs. Sabine Taufmann, Ambassador Federal Republic of Germany, Prof. Dr. Mazin Jumaah, President of the Royal University for Women, Dr. Hashim Hussein, Head of UNIDO ITPO Bahrain and Dr. Jacek Cukrowski, Chief of the UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development.

The 10-day programme, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in collaboration with the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO)/Arab International Center for Entrepreneurship & Investment (AICEI), gathers a well selected group of 22 public servants and industrial analysts from 21 developing countries. The programme, funded by the German Development Cooperation (GDC), supports policymakers from developing countries to formulate and design evidence-based policy strategies for inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

HE Mr. Al Zayani stressed the importance of devising sophisticated industrial policies and diversifying the economies of developing countries. HE Ms. Taufmann added the centrality of a functioning manufacturing sector for a country’s successful development path. On the occasion of the event, Mr. Hussein and Mr. Cukrowski expressed their common wish to further deepen the ties between ITPO Bahrain and the UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development to co-organize future capacity-development programmes in Bahrain.

On March 11th 2015 the closing graduation ceremony was conducted in the Ministry of Industry & Commerce. Present were officials from the Ministry of INdustry & Commerce, UNIDO ITPO Bahrain, UNIDO Institute of Capacity Development, the German Embassy and Royal University of Women.
