MANAMA, 11 June 2014 – A training course on green industry, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), opened today in the capital of Bahrain.

The eight-day regional training programme entitled “Green industry: Transforming the industry of the future” is conducted together with the University of Bahrain. It focuses on green technology and financing as tools used for developing sustainable systems in the region.

“The course was designed to provide participants with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest trends in sustainable solutions and to further reflect on practical, innovative and cost effective ways to address sustainability problems within industries,” said Hashim Hussein, Head of UNIDO’s Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain.

The opening was attended by the Vice President of the University of Bahrain, Waheeb Essa Alnaser, and gathered 27 participants from relevant industries in the Arab Region.

“The participants will collectively work on concepts and strategies to improve industry’s environmental performance and to implement the concept of green industry within the context of UNDIO’s mission to achieve inclusive and sustainable industrial development,” said Heinz Leuenberger, Director of UNIDO’s Environmental Management Branch.
